Job Description

Arete is hiring Cyber Threat Research Interns for its Hyderabad office. This internship is an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates passionate about Cybersecurity, Threat Intelligence, Malware Analysis, Digital Forensics, and Incident Response to gain hands-on industry experience.

As a Cyber Threat Research Intern, you'll work alongside experienced threat researchers to analyze cyber threats, profile malware, support detection engineering, and contribute to real-world threat intelligence operations. You'll also gain practical exposure to Threat Intelligence Platforms (TIP), YARA rule creation, EDR technologies, and DFIR (Digital Forensics & Incident Response) workflows.

𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰

As a Cyber Threat Research Intern, you'll support the Threat Research Team by maintaining threat intelligence data, researching malicious activities, profiling malware, and assisting with detection engineering initiatives. You'll work with threat intelligence platforms, malware analysis tools, and detection technologies while learning directly from experienced cybersecurity researchers.

This internship provides an excellent foundation for building a career in Threat Intelligence, Malware Research, SOC Operations, Digital Forensics, and Incident Response.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Support threat intelligence operations by maintaining and enriching threat data within the Threat Intelligence Platform (TIP).

• Assist in organizing, tagging, and documenting investigation requests for improved threat tracking.

• Analyze malware artifacts collected during Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR) investigations.

• Research indicators of compromise (IOCs) and contribute to malware and threat actor profiling.

• Help develop and improve threat detection logic and profiling techniques.

• Learn and assist in creating YARA rules and SentinelOne S1QL detection rules under the guidance of senior researchers.

• Submit suspicious files to automated malware analysis systems for threat profiling.

• Collaborate with experienced Threat Research Team members on ongoing investigations and cybersecurity initiatives.

• Document research findings clearly in reports, ticketing systems, and internal knowledge repositories.

• Continuously learn modern cyber threat research methodologies and detection engineering practices.

Qualifications & Eligibility

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Security, Cyber Security, or Digital Forensics.

• College projects or practical experience in cybersecurity, threat research, incident response, or malware analysis.

• Strong interest in Cyber Threat Intelligence and Detection Engineering.

• Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week).

Skills Required

• Basic understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals.

• Knowledge of malware, ransomware, threat hunting, incident response, and digital forensics concepts.

• Familiarity with Threat Intelligence concepts such as IOCs, TTPs, and the MITRE ATT&CK framework.

• Understanding of Threat Intelligence Platforms (TIP) and structured data management.

• Basic knowledge of malware analysis techniques.

• Familiarity with YARA rule syntax is an advantage.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Good written and verbal communication skills.

• Passion for cybersecurity research and continuous learning.
